Irish Tattoos
The people of Ireland have suffered from many foreign invasions in their history. Each invader brought with him his own believes and they were quickly absorbed into the local culture. Some early Irish tattoos resemble Celtic tattoos in many respects but as the invasions by other cultures continued, the Irish people converted to ‘animism’ – everything from trees to animals had a spirit. Although, the Irish people later converted to Christianity, some of their beliefs continue – and the tattoos are designed to display this belief.
